So let's get on with the rest of the struct ural work on the boat's exterior. skeg assembly are shown here. The first step in putting all these pieces together on the boat is to scribe down the skeg for a good fit against the bottom of the boat, and to cut off its after end to the correct angle (a continuation of the transom).
Try to find wood with sweeping grain that approximates the curve of the stem. If you can't find any and must work with straight grain, position the template so cross grain will be shared at both ends rather than be concentrated in the middle. Alternatively, use aircraft plywood. Lay down the stem template on the wood and trace along the fonvard and bottom edges. Remove the template, finish cutting along the inside face of the stem, reposition the template, and trace along the inside face. Sand the curved faces of the stem with an emery board, mark a centerline down the outside face, then mark two lines parallel to it, Ys inch from the centerline.
