The restorative three-act structure is a gentle form of storytelling. Characters are expected to make mistakes—that’s part of life. The real test comes when the mistakes are laid bare, when the character realizes what we, as viewers, have already figured out—how false the character has been to himself. Out of this understanding comes the character’s chance to prove himself and earn redemption. In a novel, we expect to find a narrator, a voice that speaks directly to us.
